News and Copywriting Specialist - 40127

Description

A key position on the university’s integrated marketing and communications team within the Office of University Communications that works closely with faculty, staff and students to develop and produce positive publicity about the university in multiple formats for regional, national and global audiences. Writes, distributes, posts and pitches news releases, advisories and articles to local, state, national and international media for publication. Assists external reporters and producers by processing requests for information, public records, and interview sources. Provides communications and media relations advice and counsel to internal FSU constituencies. Provides on-site media relations services at university events as necessary. Organizes and coordinates university news conferences and photo opportunities. Monitors and shares press clips with internal and external audiences. Writes university marketing and informational content for university publications and web sites.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience related to the duties of this position; or a high school diploma or equivalency and six years of experience related to the duties of this position. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.) Knowledge of and experience in journalism and writing in Associated Press style. Strong interpersonal, telephone, and email communications skills critical. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to gather, interpret, report, and/or edit information. Knowledge of the standards, principles, trends, and practices of news production. Experience working with current media technology including issues, trends, web standards and best practices.
