It’s a candid look at what happens when a social media program embraces being loud, clever and a little bit funny.

C.J. Johnson is Communications Manager at Tampa International Airport, responsible for creating viral social media content and providing community management for TPA’s 600,000+ followers.

Under his guidance, TPA became the #1 most-followed U.S. airport on social media across its four platforms when comparing followers to passengers. He is responsible for telling the digital story of America’s Favorite Airport, is skilled in crisis comms and PR, manages the weekly TPA newsletter and creates travel blogs in partnership with key airlines. He is well-known for his viral social media campaigns, particularly the Airport’s playful ban on pajamas, which garnered national media attention and earned an estimated $30 million in media value. C.J. also managed TPA’s Name the Flamingo contest, the Airport’s effort to nickname its most popular public work of art.

Prior to his career at TPA, C.J. owned a consulting firm, providing social media guidance and digital marketing services. He holds one of the nation’s first master’s in social media from the University of Florida and a bachelor’s in information systems management from Clearwater Christian College.

When he’s not buzzing around TPA’s Main Terminal, you’ll find C.J. taking to the skies and traveling the world. He has visited all 50 U.S. states, is closing in on traveling to 50 countries and has a goal to visit each continent.
