Strategy Meets Storytelling: How Suzi Baugh Builds Brands with Intention and Impact

Current Role: Communications Director, Florida State University College of Law
FPRA Member Since: 2025

A Tallahassee native and proud Florida State University alumna, Suzi Baugh brings more than 10 years of experience in strategic communications and marketing across higher education, state government, and agency settings.

Known for pairing creative storytelling with data-driven strategy, she helps organizations grow their brands, engage audiences, and navigate moments of change with clarity and purpose.

We asked Suzi how she stays inspired and connected in the communications field.

Why FPRA?
“I joined FPRA because, after working across many different industries, I’ve learned how important it is to stay connected to your craft and to the people who truly understand it. FPRA offers a community where I can continue learning, exchanging ideas, and growing alongside others who care deeply about our industry. What I love most about being a member is the genuine connection. FPRA goes beyond networking to foster meaningful relationships, shared learning, and a strong sense of purpose, all of which make me better at what I do.”

What advice would you give to someone starting in communications?
“One of my biggest pieces of advice is to always ask questions and look at the big picture. It’s easy to work in silos early in your career, but understanding how every piece fits into an integrated campaign is critical. Knowing the strategy behind a social post or the audience for a flyer you’re designing makes your work stronger and more intentional. I’m also a big believer in mentorship and professional community. Joining organizations like FPRA early on helps you start building relationships, learning from others, and gaining a larger perspective that goes beyond your day-to-day role.”

What inspires you most about your work?
“What inspires me most is knowing that what we do is a critical part of everyday life — even when people don’t realize it. Every ad you see, and every product you interact with, didn’t just happen; it’s the result of years of collaboration, experimentation, and persistence from an entire team. When that work feels effortless to the audience, that’s the real magic of great branding. I’m inspired by the intention and craft behind that kind of work and try to stay mindful of everything it takes to get there. It motivates me to keep learning, refining my skills, and pushing my own work to reach that same level of clarity, impact, and thoughtfulness.”
