PAID PR/Communications Internship

Description

Audubon Florida is looking a paid Communications and Outreach Intern to join our team for the Spring 2017 semester. The internship will be located in our downtown Tallahassee office and may be used for college course credit if desired. We want someone who can commit to at least 10 hours a week for the entire Spring 2017 semester, and we’re flexible around class schedules. This internship will occur during the 2017 Legislative Session, where Florida policymakers gather in Tallahassee for the purpose of lawmaking. Interns can expect to learn tons about conservation, protecting Florida’s environment, related policy, and managing communications in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include:
• Create and post social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram) content
• Suggest social media content based on current events and news
• Use social media scheduling platforms
• Assist with developing publications, email marketing pieces and other messaging
• Assist in updating website
• Draft press releases
• Proofread and edit content from various programs
• Assist in the creation of short videos
• Maintain and develop lists of media and community contacts
• Ability to work well with diverse audiences
• Monitor and report on mentions of Audubon Florida in the media
• Assist the Communications Manager and Audubon Florida team in various operational tasks
(we won’t ask you to pick up coffee or run copies, but expect to have some basic operational tasks)

Qualifications

Ideally, interested candidates should be excellent communicators who have a positive, can-do attitude. The internship is well suited for juniors, seniors and/or graduate students. Candidates should know a thing or two about social media and public relations, but they don’t need to be experts. We’re fighting to protect Florida’s environment, and we need someone who can be passionate about protecting birds and wildlife. Applicants of all backgrounds and walks of life are encourage to apply!
