Description
The Communications Intern is an integral part of the the Ombudsman Program’s public relations activities, helping reach strategic goals to increase the visibility, awareness, and support of its mission, both internally and externally. This position requires a minimum of 12 hours per week
Qualifications
Assist in developing various content for multiple channels including web, email, print, and social.
Assist in coordinating the annual editorial calendar, write copy for newsletters, website, brochures, annual report, press releases, and program-related collateral.
Assist in coordinating media inquiries.
Collaborate with department managers to produce compelling storytelling content through written, graphic, or video methods.
Working with the Staff Director to create meaningful content for outreach to the media and constituents.
Monitoring communication analytics to gauge viewer interest and readership.
Serve as a monitor for incoming inquires via email, website, and social media.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability to communicate effectively with others, utilizing active listening, information gathering, organizational skills, critical thinking, time management, problem identification and resolution.
Possess strong written and oral communication skills, using correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling; detail oriented and able to enter data accurately into a computerized system.
Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate records, reports, correspondence, and other documentation in a logical format within established timeframes.
Ability to navigate multiple computer screens, applications, and online research engines. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, Adobe and Adobe Pro, and other Department operational systems.
Ability to demonstrate a professional and courteous demeanor. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public and staff. Ability to work independently and with teams at the unit and agency where appropriate.
Ability to review, analyze, and evaluate data and process travel documents.
