About the Agency: The Florida Commission on Offender Review performs a vital role in Florida’s criminal justice system by preserving the autonomy needed in post release decisions affecting inmates and ex-offenders.

Commissioners preside over approximately 36 hearings annually at the Central Office in Tallahassee and various locations throughout the state, as required by statute. During these public proceedings, the Commissioners make a variety of determinations regarding parole and other releases. In addition, the Commission reviews releasees’ supervision status every two years.

Position Description: The Florida Commission on Offender Review is currently accepting applications for a Communications Intern with exceptional writing and interpersonal skills. As an intern with the Commission, you will have the opportunity to attend weekly parole hearings and meetings of the Board of Executive Clemency. Responsibilities will include creating media packets for various events, compiling news clips, drafting articles for agency newsletters and reports, proofreading, and accepting administrative tasks, as needed.

Qualifications

• College student studying communications, English, or political science
• Exceptional writing skills
• An eye for detail
• An interest in criminal justice is preferred, but not required
• Must be able to commit to 15-20 hours a week
