About FPRA Capital Chapter

As the oldest public relations association in the United States, the Capital Chapter was founded in 1956.

Our Story

The Capital Chapter represents the Big Bend region as part of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) – the oldest public relations association in the United States. Since 1938, FPRA has served public relations, marketing, communications, and creative professionals statewide, advancing the profession and supporting member development throughout all career stages.

As the largest FPRA chapter in Florida, the Capital Chapter supports over 100 professionals spanning diverse industries, including independent consultants, government, associations, nonprofits, education, healthcare, legal services, corporate, retail, agencies, and small businesses, in addition to our student chapter representing over 60 FSU, FAMU, and TSC students studying the communications and marketing profession.

We provide professional development, networking, affinity networking groups, behind-the-scenes events, mentorship, field trips, and community service opportunities for professionals at every stage.

Our Role in the Community

The Capital Chapter is committed not only to the betterment of our profession and ourselves, but also to our community. In addition to professional development opportunities, we lend our expertise to several community service projects throughout the year — connecting North Florida and South Georgia-area communicators, marketers, and creatives with meaningful ways to give back.

As the professional association for public relations, marketing, creative, and communications practitioners in Florida’s capital region, we serve as a vital hub for networking, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration across government, nonprofit, education, healthcare, corporate, and agency sectors.

A Message from Our President-Elect

Michael Sonntag

Independent Strategic Communications and Public Affairs Professional

“I could say a million great things about the Capital Chapter networking opportunities, professional development functions, and recognition opportunities, but I think more than all of that, the Cap Chap has let me meet an incredible group of people who are more than just colleagues. These are people who are real friends and supporters to celebrate victories, be there when you need to vent, and just get what we all go through.”

“I joined FPRA because, after working across many different industries, I’ve learned how important it is to stay connected to your craft and to the people who truly understand it. FPRA offers a community where I can continue learning, exchanging ideas, and growing alongside others who care deeply about our industry. What I love most about being a member is the genuine connection. FPRA goes beyond networking to foster meaningful relationships, shared learning, and a strong sense of purpose, all of which make me better at what I do.”

— Suzi Baugh, Communications Director, FSU College of Law
