Responsibilities
The Vice President, Marketing and Strategic Communications leads the development and execution of comprehensive, multi-channel communication strategies that enhance the visibility and reputation of the college, while clearly communicating the college’s commitment to affordability, accessibility, and high-quality educational opportunities. As a member of the executive team, the vice president reports directly to the president. This role oversees the college’s public image through branding, media relations, digital communications, and internal communications in alignment with the institution’s mission and strategic plan. The incumbent collaborates with other departments to design innovative and effective strategies to promote the college’s brand, attract prospective students, engage the community, and support enrollment goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Leads and executes comprehensive communication strategies and plans through collaboration with key stakeholders that support the college’s goals and strategic plan.
2. Serves as the primary Public Information Officer (PIO) for the college to build awareness of the college’s mission, programs, services, and initiatives and enhance its public image.
3. Serves as a member of the executive team. Acts an advisor to the president, other members of the executive team, and the Foundation in matters of internal and external communications, including crisis communications.
4. Develops and manages assigned budgets.
5. Leads the design and implementation of multi-channel student marketing strategies and campaigns to engage priority audiences and attract enrollment in collaboration with the admissions team and academic departments.
6. Leads the college’s social media strategy across platforms to strengthen the institution’s online presence and engage with prospective students, alumni, community leaders and partners, and other key stakeholders.
7. Evaluates return on investment (ROI) as well as other metrics and analytics to report results to key stakeholders.
8. Establishes and evaluates effectiveness of internal communication strategies, practices, tools, and resources to ensure clear and timely information flow within the college.
9. Cultivates relationships with local, regional, and national media to enhance the college’s visibility, reputation, and ability to respond effectively in times of crisis or opportunity.
10. Contributes to the Emergency Response Team to anticipate potential risks/crises in refining the college’s crisis communication plan. Coordinates media training.
11. Partners with the Foundation to design and implement promotions, news stories, social media, and related communications.
12. Leads and guides department staff with supervision, professional development opportunities, and mentorship while fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
13. Monitors news, media, and social media. Ensures the timely, accurate, and sensitive handling of issues and responding as appropriate to mitigate potential reputational risks.
14. Provides direction and/or support for special events that promote the college and supports colleagues with public speaking, presentations, articles, and programs.
15. Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.
2. Seven years of demonstrated professional marketing experience which includes creating and managing marketing programs (branding, advertising, collateral development, internal and external communications, promotions, and website development).
3. Five years of demonstrated administrative experience as department head in leading and working with collaborative, cross-functional, and creative teams.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s Degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.
2. Experience in leadership, management, and collaboration in a diverse environment with a complex network of constituents.
3. Marketing strategies experience at a higher education institution.

12. Critical thinking skills, ability to deal with ambiguity, resolve complex problems, and effectively manage multiple projects and initiatives.
13. Ability to lead and motivate others to achieve objectives.
