Description

Responsible for the promotion of the Division of Food, Nutrition and Wellness programs, specifically the Summer Food Service Programs. This includes the development of content for outreach materials, assisting with communications activities, coordinating special events and representing the division to the public and stakeholders at conferences.

Assists with writing and editing content for outreach and education marketing materials to include newsletters, flyers, brochures, point-of-service displays, menu templates, direct mail and presentation materials. Work with Division leadership to prepare policy and program information to disseminate to the public and stakeholders using multiple communication channels, such as newsletters, email campaigns, social media outlets and website content; determines the most effective and consistent communication with the public. Ensures outreach materials meet the department’s standardization guidelines.

Prepares source documentation to assist the division’s Contract Manager and Accountant with the completion of bids, specifications and purchase requests to contract with outside vendors. Reviews, approves and ensures the quality of work delivered to and from vendors for the development and completion of outreach and education marketing materials. Ensures consistency of program information content.

Develops, implements and coordinates special events from concept to final analysis of event effectiveness and impact. Staffs events, as needed, including set up and tear down of the event. Researches and identifies sites to exhibit and promote division programs. Works cooperatively with division staff to create new outreach opportunities.

Provides information to division staff on all program education and outreach activities and issues involving the Summer Food Service Programs. Works with division staff to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the outreach and education initiatives. Collaborates with other divisions regarding public relations and special events promoting division programs.

Assists with implementing a cohesive outreach and education plan for the division. Researches, identifies and develops innovative strategies to expand awareness about division programs. Monitors trends for indications of the need for new products or services to target specific audiences.

Assists with the emergency management functions of the bureau during periods of disaster. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in marketing, business, merchandising, economics, agriculture, international affairs, leisure services, or communications and three (3) years of professional experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, agriculture, international affairs, leisure services, business or industry development, the travel industry or in hotel or restaurant management; or

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in business administration and two (2) years of professional experience as described above.

Professional or paraprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.
