ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provides managerial oversight of the marketing intern(s). Assists with the interviewing and hiring of the marketing intern(s). Manages and develops programming/tasks for the marketing intern(s) each semester.
Assist in developing, implementing and managing Public Relations efforts. Communicates County tourism-related news and achievements to local, regional, and national publications. Writes and disseminates news releases to local media and arranges interviews for the Division’s senior management when necessary. Develops and maintains target media lists, including local print and broadcast, travel writers and editors from key newspapers, regional and national magazines, travel trade and travel industry-related publications, freelance travel writers and travel bloggers. Assist with the coordination and implementation of media visits, both individual and group. Assist with coordination and implementation of media visits, both individual and group. Assist with writing and editing of the Division’s industry newsletter, promotional emails, sales materials and feature stories.
Performs website content management. Updates and maintains the image library. Assists in writing and editing content for VisitTallahassee.com, CapitalCityAmphitheater.com and Trailahassee.com. Oversees the addition of news releases to the Partner section of VisitTallahassee.com. Assists in ensuring website content is updated and accurate.
Assist with industry relations and outreach. Provides administrative support to Choose Tallahassee. Represents Leon County Tourism at in-market and out-of-market shows/events as needed. Assist with coordinating industry events.
Assist in developing statewide, regional and national promotions. Research various promotional opportunities with the agency and outside organizations (for example: Department of State, VISIT FLORIDA, et cetera.). Coordinate components of promotional
packages with local industry and assist in the management and implementation of promotions.
Assist with the management of all social media platforms. Stay abreast of current events and tourism-related developments and ensure they are included in all postings. Work with the agency in reviewing and editing social content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. Monitors social content, searching for mentions of destination/applicable hashtag(s) and responds.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the tourism industry and Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs). Knowledge of public relations and its best practices. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity of destinations. Ability to give strong attention to detail. Experience with media relations. Must have excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to formulate clever, out-of-the-box ideas (creative and innovative). Ability to travel and work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as necessary. Proficient in the use of social media (Facebok, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagrtam). Proficient in Word and Excel. Proficient in design software (Photoshop, In-Design, et cetera).
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field and a minimum of two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements:
A valid Florida Driver’s License and a favorable driving record.
