Public Information Specialist – Office of Communications

This is a highly professional and administrative position responsible for implementing various public information functions to support and assist the Communications Director and Press Secretary for the Department of Health. The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Prepares responses to media inquiries by providing background information, statistics and technical assistance.

Coordinates with Press Secretary on strategy for responding to matters relating to the daily flow of media information, inquiries from the press or officials, as directed by Department of Health.

Prepares speeches and presentations as needed for the Department of Health leadership.

Coordinates press conferences, displays and special events.

Coordinates the planning, preparation, and dissemination of news releases, newsletters, fact sheets, and other materials to support the mission of the Department of Health to promote and protect the health of Florida’s citizens.

Assists in the development and coordination of public awareness campaign activities.

Researches materials and writes articles for publication and/or dissemination.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Ability to communicate effectively with others in writing and verbally; Excellent writing skills; Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines; ability to effectively research complex and technical information.
