Public Affairs Manager

Description

The position is responsible for the department’s comprehensive media relations program to include story and Opinion-Editorial placement, and production of a veterans’ news clip service to FDVA senior leadership. Supports the Legislative and Cabinet Affairs Director during committee weeks preceding the annual Florida Legislative Session and during the 60-day annual Florida Legislative Session, to include developing information briefs on policy and budget issues impacting Florida’s veteran community and representing the department in meetings as assigned by the Legislative and Cabinet Affairs Director, Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director or his/her designee.

The position is responsible for an integrated social media outreach campaign using Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube targeting Florida’s more than 1.5 million veterans, their families and survivors.

The position is responsible for developing content on the department’s Internet site and monitoring the site for accuracy. For editing and publication of a monthly state veterans’ newsletter, assisting with the development and presentation of briefings, speeches, articles, policy statements, news advisories and releases, proclamations, resolutions, and other communications to support the department. Project Officer for Governor’s Veterans Service Award Presentations.

The position is responsible for editing and publication of an annual state veterans’ benefits guide, as well as the weekly submission of an employee of the week to the Executive Office of the Governor.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in advertising, communications, public relations or a similar area of study and two years’ experience in related field. Individual should possess strong writing, editing, public speaking and leadership skills, along with the ability to work with other employees. Defense Information School (DINFOS) graduate preferred for honorably discharged service members claiming veteran status. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products essential. Desktop publishing skills helpful. This is not an entry level position.
