Description
Serve as the primary spokesperson and first point of contact for media relations, including the development and distribution of press releases and other communications. Serve as point of contact for collecting information from OIR subject matter experts to facilitate media responses.
Develop and draft strategic messaging regarding matters of significance for OIR, including the creation of talking points for Senior Management to use at meetings, hearings and other events. Coordinate OIR events.
Exercises discretion and independent judgment to create, coordinate and send media advisories, press releases, office statements and related content for internal and external distribution and confer with the Communications Director and Senior Management. Acts in a confidential capacity while in the performance of duties to ensure content and correspondence released does not jeopardize the mission of the office or the integrity of an investigation.
Serve as lead content director for OIR website (floir.com) and Intranet (internal employee website) and makes recommendations to the Communications Director. Manages content maps, implement review of current content, and draft/edit as needed. Create, maintain and update the OIR website policy and make recommendations based on best practices. Using analytics, provide recommendations on user interface, including enhancing searches often performed by members of the media and improving public records techniques via the OIR website. Service as backup to the Communications Coordinator for submitting website requests for posting of new multi-media content and other documents or updates as needed.
Works with the Communications Coordinator to develop social media content for appropriateness and approval.
Reviews daily news clips content for appropriateness and approval.
Develops annual OIR education calendar and makes recommendations to the Communications Director and Senior Management.
Serve as a member of the Incident Management Team and in this capacity may be required on short notice to perform duties and necessary attendant travel in support of disaster relief efforts.
Continually research digital communications strategies and make recommendations to Senior Management regarding implementation.
Direct special projects and other related work as delegated by the Communications Director.
Qualifications
Knowledge of administrative principles and practices, knowledge of the methods of data collection, knowledge of principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication; ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data relating to administrative functions such as accounting, personnel, purchasing or report writing; ability to prepare correspondence and administrative reports; ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to utilize problem-solving techniques; ability to work independently; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; skill in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook, knowledge of office procedures and practices; ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
Preference will be given to applicants with:
- Two or more years of experience working with members of the media
- Two or more years of proven professional social media campaign and analytics experience
- Experience in graphic design or creation of graphics
- Experience writing, editing and/or proofreading documents for print, social media and publications
- Skill in the use of the Adobe Creative Suite
This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.
Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.
