This is a temporary position that is not anticipated to last more than six months

The Department of Management Services (DMS) is a customer-oriented agency responsible for managing various business-related functions throughout state government. Under the direction of Florida Governor Rick Scott and the executive leadership team at DMS, the agency oversees the real estate, procurement, human resources, group insurance, retirement, telecommunications, private prisons, and fleet and federal property assistance programs utilized throughout Florida’s state government. The Department of Management Services is relied upon to establish, maintain and improve the business processes used by state employees in doing their jobs to serve our Floridians. Department of Management Services staff facilitates the delivery of these programs and services and provides tools and training to bolster the efficiency and effectiveness of the state’s workforce. Position Summary:

The Department of Management Services is seeking a communications professional to serve in DMS’ Office of Communications located in the Office of the Secretary. This OPS Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and editing diverse types of written communications. This position provides an opportunity to interact with DMS executives, members of the press, and various internal and external stakeholders. Ability to thrive in a fact-pace environment is essential to being successful in this position.

Position responsibilities:
•Work closely with the Communications Director to positively promote DMS’ initiatives through internal and external communications.
•Edit all communication materials, including internal and external reports, news releases, social media campaigns, and internal newsletters and publications.
•Research and produce clear, concise educational and promotional written content related to agency initiatives and programs on behalf of DMS and the Governor’s Office.
•Collaborate with DMS’ nine divisions to assist with internal and external marketing campaigns.
•Monitor press clippings related to DMS initiatives and share with DMS senior leadership team on a daily basis.
•Collaborate with Communications team to conceptualize and produce visually and rhetorically appealing graphics and texts.
•Provide courteous, timely, and accurate customer service when engaging with members of the press, the public and internal customers.
•Aid in the development of social media strategies that enhance the agency’s social media presence on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
•Field correspondences from constituents and media representatives.
•Maintain a high standard of professionalism as a member of DMS’ Office of the Secretary.

Minimum Qualifications:

The OPS Communications Specialist must possess at least four years of professional experience as a writer, editor, public relations manager, or a related profession. Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in communications, writing, marketing, public relations, or a related field may substitute for the required professional experience. A combination of four years of relevant education and experience is acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Professional experience working in Florida’s executive or legislative branches.
•Professional experience in communicating with executive-level stakeholders.
•Professional experience with fielding requests from the media.
•Professional experience maintaining a public website.
•Knowledge of Florida’s public record laws.
