The Florida Head Start Association (FHSA) is a non-profit association working with Head Start and Early Head Start programs around the state of Florida to assist them in providing comprehensive child development programs for children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and families. Head Start focuses on preparing children for school.

Description: FHSA seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist planning events and communication efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of marketing while working for well-known community based nonprofit organization.

Responsibilities:
• Working directly with Executive Director to assist with planning and implementation of an annual conference, workshops and other various events and meetings throughout the year
• Update and maintain FHSA social media presence, including scheduling Facebook and Twitter updates
• Assist in planning, writing and managing monthly eNewsletter
• Assist with designing emails, invites and other marketing material for hosted event by FHSA
• Update the FHSA website when needed
• Marketing, fundraising, and event planning duties are researching prospects and organizations, attending meetings, helping to plan benefits, and developing/distributing marketing materials
• Collaborating with staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications
• Database maintenance

Start Date: Position open until filled, requires 6 – 10-month commitment.
Hours: 8 – 12 hours/week, preferably twice a week in the office. Up to 4 hours can be completed at home.

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship offering credit hours.

Qualifications

• Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
• Previous internship or related experience in event planning or communications is a plus
• Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop highly desired. Knowledge of HTML and graphic design a plus
• An effective communicator, both written and oral
• Ability to communicate in a professional manner
• Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
• Enthusiasm for the mission of Head Start and the families we serve
