Description

The Deputy Communications Director works in the Office of Communications at the Florida Department of Revenue to develop and implement a variety of internal and external communications efforts that assist the Department in carrying out its public service responsibilities. The person selected for this position must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical skills for developing messaging on issues and evaluating media strategies, superb attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills.

Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not necessarily limited to:
•Working directly with the Communications Director to develop and implement the Department’s communications vision and strategies;
•Researching, editing and drafting content for internal and external communications efforts;
•Assisting in the management of the Department’s external and internal web presence;
•Assisting in overseeing the work of the Communications Coordinator;
•Fielding incoming media inquiries, and assembling relevant background materials and responding as assigned by the Communications Director;
•Producing talking points, fact sheets and statements on behalf of the Department.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
•A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university;
•A minimum of three years’ experience in the field of communications or public relations;
•Management and planning skills to oversee numerous concurrent projects;
•Experience in creating and implementing communications plans;
•Experience and ability working effectively with multiple individuals, as well as independently;
•Experience working with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

PREFERENCES:
•Proficiency in all aspects of media relations and a demonstrated familiarity with state government communications.
•Experience managing websites and social media accounts.
