Description
As part of the Florida Division of Emergency Management Office of Communications and External Affairs, the External Affairs Manager is the primary lead for identifying events for participation, managing partner relations and preparing materials for external speaking engagements. This position also serves as a deputy to the Director of Communications and External Affairs.
Responsibilities include:
•Serve as deputy to the Director of Communications and External Affairs
•Support Emergency Support Function 14 during State Emergency Operations Center activations
•Manage the Division’s Communications Coordinator and Office of Communications and External Affairs interns
•Identify speaking engagements and relevant events for Division participation
•Plan, organize, execute and manage events including partner events and industry events
•Assist with drafting and developing presentations, speeches, talking points, press releases and other materials as needed
•Assist with media relations as necessary
•Compile event briefing binders for Division Director, Deputy Director and staff
•Staff Division Director and Deputy Director at external events, including press conferences, committee meetings, media interviews, etc.
•Implement and manage communication initiatives that promote Division goals and priorities
•Coordinate with the Division’s Legislative Affairs team and assist with legislative requests and events as necessary
•Providing updates to Division’s external partners
•Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
•Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations/Advertising, Journalism, Writing, or related fields
•Three – Four years of related experience
•On the record media experience
•Crisis communications experience
