The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) provides highway safety and security through excellence in service, education and enforcement. With a workforce of approximately 4,500 employees throughout the state, FLHSMV is leading the way to A Safer Florida through the efficient and professional execution of its core mission: the issuance of driver licenses, vehicle tags and titles, and operation of the Florida Highway Patrol.

This position works directly with the Deputy Director of Communications to facilitate consumer education initiatives for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV). The consumer education coordinator is responsible for creating and disseminating consumer awareness content for department messaging, including the creation, strategy, execution and evaluation of statewide consumer initiatives.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with experience facilitating and/or managing events, communicating with members of the public, and developing successful strategic communications/integrated marketing plans. Preference will also be given to individuals who have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Public Relations or Communications and work experience in a similar position.

The ideal candidate will have:

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
Skill in providing customer service to internal and external customers.
Ability to manage and organize multiple tasks and deadlines.
Ability to use correct spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Ability to respond to the public in a calm, effective manner.
Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous and effective manner.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to update and maneuver WordPress and SharePoint websites or similar experience.
Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
Ability to research.
Ability to analyze data and/or information and make recommendations for improvement or strategy.
