The Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) is the agency charged with licensing and regulating businesses and professionals in the State of Florida, such as cosmetologists, veterinarians, real estate agents and pari-mutuel wagering facilities. Our mission is to license efficiently, regulate fairly, and we strive to meet this goal in our day-to-day operation.

The Office of Communications at DBPR coordinates media relations for the department by responding to media inquiries, facilitating interviews with subject matter experts, promoting various events, coordinating issue-based campaigns, and advising media outlets of important issues.

The Office of Communications is seeking one unpaid intern who has effective communications and writing skills, knowledge of current events and politics, and experience using basic technology and social networking sites.

While the internship does not offer a salary, interns will gain first-hand experience working in a state department’s communications office that services more than one million businesses and professionals in Florida that will provide an opportunity to develop work samples for a personal portfolio and meet internship requirements.

Interns will have an opportunity to take charge of various projects, write articles, coordinate large events, interact with leadership within state government, and perform other duties as assigned within the Office of Communications.

Qualifications

– Minimum of 20 hours per week
– Strong writing skills and knowledge of AP style
– Perform the internship in a professional manner in terms of conduct, timeliness, and dress code.
– Ability to multi-task
– Capable of working in a fast-paced environment
– Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines
– Strong organizational skills
– Earning a PR/Communications degree, English, Creative Writing, Political Science, or related field of study
