The Florida Lottery Communications Coordinator job is a part-time position (20 hours per week) and pays $20 per hour.

The primary duties of this position include planning and implementing creative and comprehensive internal communications strategies that successfully communicate vital information to Lottery employees. The workload of this position is consistently heavy, and the pace is fast. This person must be detail oriented and effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Each employee is expected to be knowledgeable of the Lottery’s Responsible Gaming program, including the No Underage Play and Play Within Your Means messaging, and will ensure retailers and players are aware of the program and provided information, as necessary.
  • Develops and plans internal communications strategies and correspondence for employees.
  • Prepares copy as assigned for, monthly newsletters and other publications as needed.
  • Designs and lays out monthly employee newsletter.
  • Plans, designs, and executes visual elements for internal monitors.
  • Works closely with Human Resources, the Chief of Staff, and the Office of the Secretary to draft, review, plan, and disseminate internal correspondence to employees.
  • Assists with the preparation of various correspondence from the Governor’s Office and the Office of the Secretary as needed.
  • Drafts internal talking points and canned responses to support new products and promotions, education efforts, responsible gaming initiatives, and other various Lottery campaigns.
  • Greets high-tier Lottery winners; writes and disseminates news releases to secure positive media coverage for Lottery winners as needed.
  • Assists in planning and executing events and promotions as needed.
  • Answers telephones.
  • Works outside of scheduled work hours when required to assist the Communications Office.
  • Assists the Communications Director and Manager as necessary and performs other communications-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of AP writing style.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments independently.
  • Ability to select and provide appropriate information to others.
  • Knowledge of the rules of grammar and punctuation.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to respond to customers, the media, and the public tactfully and courteously.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and written, and to project a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to recognize, diagnose, and resolve issues at a high level.
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks and deadlines and able to prioritize them effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, primarily Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, primarily Acrobat, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, and InDesign.
  • Proficient in social media platforms, including Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Proficient in Canva Pro.
  • Experience in the design and layout of magazines, newspapers, or flyers.
  • Must be reliable, have a professional appearance, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to speak and write Spanish a plus, though not required.

Other job-related requirements and authorization to substitute related work experience in lieu of post-secondary educational requirements.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study is preferred. Professional experience in communications, or a closely related field, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the preferred college education.
