The Work You Will Do:
This is a professional level position functioning as the “Communications Coordinator” reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Communications in the Office of the Secretary. This position is responsible for reviewing communications deliverables for spelling or grammatical errors, enforcing and updating DEP’s style guide, fact checking copy and making recommendations to enhance copy. This position may also be called upon to write some content and train new employees. Must be eager, collaborative, energetic and team-oriented.

Pay:
$40,000 to $45,000

Your Specific Responsibilities:
The “Communications Coordinator” will refine written content to effectively communicate DEP’s priorities and initiatives, engage DEP’s target audience (external and internal) and maintain a high-level of quality and consistency. This position is responsible for crafting compelling communications deliverables for various mediums and platforms, as well as proofreading and editing content to ensure accuracy, clarity and adherence to brand guidelines.

This position is instrumental in implementing the Office of Communications’ internal tracking process, which monitors where copy is at every stage in DEP’s robust review process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and editing content for spelling, grammar, punctuation, style and consistency.
  • Ensuring that all content is error-free and adheres to DEP’s brand’s tone and style guidelines.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality content.
  • Verifying facts and ensure accuracy in all written materials.
  • Conducting research to gather information, data and insights relevant to the content being created.
  • Tailoring content to suit different target audiences, demographics and communication channels.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of the Associated Press (AP) Style Book, editing practices, grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to synthesize information to inform the public of the department’s priorities. Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment while interfacing with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, professional, verbal and written communication abilities. Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.

Required Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications, English, public relations, or similar field of study. Work experience can substitute on a year for year basis for the required degree.

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP 422 (Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility). Any applicant being considered for employment must successfully complete a Level 2 State and National criminal history check as a condition of employment before beginning employment, and also be screened in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, F.S. No applicant may begin employment until the background screening results are received, reviewed for any disqualifying offenses, and approved by the Agency.
