Description

This is a highly professional position, responsible for implementing various public health information and targeted initiatives for the Florida Department of Health. The Communications Coordinator will report to the Deputy Communications Director.

Your Specific Responsibilities

Social Media Support

Leads the department’s social media messaging platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) by collaborating, strategizing, implementing, analyzing and placing targeted social media messaging.
Develops short and long-range social media messaging goals and outlines strategies to implement.
Engages with stakeholders, county health departments, and other public health influencers to promote messaging strategies and/or marketing initiatives.
Creates baseline annual social media strategy calendar for routine and timely content that align with current agency health initiatives and identify opportunities to creatively promote additional public health messages throughout the year.
Curates and manages all published social media content.
Develops routine data analytic reports to supervisor and others, to evaluate effectiveness of content.
Monitors and evaluates daily flow of social media information and inquiries.
Updates, prepares, and responds to social media public inquiries by providing information, helpful links, contact information, statistics, and/or technical assistance.
Recommend best practices in social media to optimize engagements and traffic and maximize Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Communications Support

Works closely with staff in the Office of Communications, agency leadership, programs, county clinics and offices, and stakeholder groups to assist with the development and dissemination of messaging.
Assist in the coordination of the department’s public events and in preparation of briefing materials.
Plan, research, develop, market, produce, present, and write promotional, educational, and informational material regarding agency or division programs.
Assist with developing publications for both internal and external use. Publications include but are not limited to press releases, articles, meeting recaps, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience in news reporting, editing, public relations, public information, advertising, marketing, mass communications, or journalism can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Advanced knowledge of social media platforms, social media content development, management, and analytics tools.
Extensive knowledge of AP writing style guide as well as the rules of grammar, punctuation, proofreading, and copy editing.
Some knowledge of design, photo, and video editing software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
Must be highly organized with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Skilled in copywriting and editing, communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Must have strong customer service, public relations, and presentation skills.
Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
Ability to adhere to AP writing style guidelines.
Ability to research topics and write articles or prepare information for dissemination.
Ability to develop and implement an annual communications calendar to ensure timely execution of the program.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments to meet deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to communicate to citizens and coworkers in a mature, tactful, and courteous manner.
Ability to demonstrate personal integrity, responsibility, and accountability.
Ability to travel on short notice, as needed.
Ability to initiate and coordinate demographic research.
