From Home to the Stars: Helping NASA Communicate and Collaborate

The FPRA Capital Chapter welcomes Sylvester Placid, Communications Strategist at NASA, as the speaker for our April 2021 program. Placid determines the communications strategy and plans for the Communications Program (CP) within the NASA Office of the Chief Information Officer, responsible for network and collaboration services for the Agency. His work has taken on increased importance over the last year, as the services provided by his office have transformed how NASA personnel collaborate to complete missions during mandatory COVID-19 telework. Placid will discuss his work and strategies with the Capital Chapter, and we’ll open up the floor for a Q&A session at the end.

Placid has more than 12 years of corporate communication experience in the federal management consulting and aerospace and defense industries. His previous work includes internal communication and employee engagement, executive communication, crisis communication, digital communication and social media governance, intranet content management and governance, knowledge management, taxonomy and metadata design, and corporate social responsibility.

He taught courses in Interpersonal and Intercultural Communication and Public Speaking as an adjunct instructor at George Mason University holds an M.A. in Communication, Culture, and Technology from Georgetown University. Additionally, he is Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation certified for IT service management to align IT services with the business needs.
