Join the Capital Chapter’s Leadership Team!

Strengthen your leadership skills, grow your professional network and have fun by volunteering for an FPRA leadership position. The Capital Chapter is looking for members willing to serve in a leadership capacity during the 2016-2017 board year. The following positions are available:

BOARD OF DIRECTORS POSITIONS

PRESIDENT-ELECT (Board Officer): Provides support and performs duties as assigned for the chapter president and board. Serves as Chapter President the following year. (Ideally has prior experience in other chapter board positions). Attends monthly board meetings and provides monthly report of activities.

TREASURER (Board Officer): Manages and reports on all financial matters for the chapter, serves as primary meeting registrar, has bank signing authority. Prepares the annual chapter budget and provides state office with required financial reports. Performs other duties as assigned. Attends monthly board meetings and provides monthly report of activities.

SECRETARY (Board Officer): Creates board agendas, collects board reports and compiles all into monthly board meeting minutes. Records and executes all orders, votes and resolutions no otherwise committed. Serves as historical steward of past chapter records and performs other duties as assigned. Attends monthly board meetings and provides monthly report of activities.

DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP (Voting Board Member): Organizes and manages member recruitment and retention efforts on behalf of the chapter and other duties as assigned. Coordinates activities of student liaison, senior member development and member social volunteers. Attends monthly board meetings and provides monthly report of activities.

DIRECTOR OF ACCREDITATION (Voting Board Member): Recruits candidates for Accredited in Public Relations (APR) and Certified Public Relations Counselor (CPRC) credentials. Organizes study groups, assembles review panels and supports PR professionals through the accreditation process. This director ideally has attained both APR and CPRC credentials. Attends monthly board meetings and provides monthly report of activities.

DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMING (Voting Board Member): Develops relevant and innovative topics for 10 monthly chapter luncheons, other programs and recruits speakers. Coordinates activities of monthly luncheon chair. Also guides and facilitates work of Pro-X event, professional development and ER for PR volunteers. Attends monthly board meetings and provides monthly report of activities.

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS & PR (Voting Board Member): Performs all PR and branding activities on behalf of the chapter and coordinates efforts of the social media chair, website coordinator, PRiority! Newsletter editor and chapter blogger. Attends monthly board meetings and provides monthly report of activities.

DIRECTOR OF AWARDS & RECOGNITION (Voting Board Member): Ensures professional recognition of chapter members and local PR professionals through Image Awards (April). Organizes nominations for annual FPRA honors including Stan Tait award; PR practitioner of the year; three FPRA state awards.  Writes congratulatory letters and performs other duties as assigned. Attends monthly board meetings and provides monthly report of activities.

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT (Voting Board Member): Coordinates fundraising activities and sponsorship efforts on behalf of the chapter. Supports co-chairs in organizing the Amazing Capital Race, our signature annual event (September) and performs other duties as assigned. Attends monthly board meetings and provides monthly report of activities.

VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE CHAIR POSITIONS

The following volunteer committee chair positions are project-driven. Each volunteer is critical to our chapter’s success. The positions are non-voting and chairs are not required to attend board meetings. Any FPRA member is eligible to serve as a chair or on a committee. Committee service is a great way to get acquainted with chapter operations and leadership.

STUDENT LIAISON CHAIR (Reports to Director of Membership): Serves as liaison between our PR professional chapter and local PR students. FSU has very active student chapter with nearly 200 students. Liaison coordinates student scholarship awards on behalf of Capital Chapter. Attends student chapter meetings and works closely with student chapter leadership.

SENIOR MEMBER DEVELOPMENT CHAIR (Reports to Director of Membership): Organizes 2-3 events annually of interest to senior members of the Capital Chapter. Regularly engages senior members in upcoming events and opportunities.

 MEMBER SOCIALS CHAIR (Reports to Director of Membership): Organizes annual holiday social (December) and 1-2 other mixer/networking events. Performs other event support duties as assigned.

PRO-X CHAIR (Reports to Director of Membership): Plans and implements several smaller events exclusively for members on topics outside of traditional professional development opportunities (holiday wreath-making, dress for success, Painting with a Twist, etc.)

SOCIAL MEDIA CHAIR (Reports to Director of Communications & PR): Updates Chapter social media channels with cap chap events, member news and other PR news of interest. Attends and covers all chapter luncheons and other events. Works with chapter photographer and others to position the chapter positively in the community.

WEBSITE COORDINATOR (Reports to Director of Communications & PR): Maintains content on chapter website – from upcoming events and job board items to member news.

PRiority! (Newsletter) EDITOR (Reports to Director of Communications & PR): Compiles edits and publishes the chapter’s monthly newsletter. Works closely with board and committee chairs to ensure timely coverage of chapter activities.

IMAGE AWARD CO-CHAIRS (Report to Director of Awards & Recognition): Plans and implements the chapter’s annual Image Awards competition (April). Organizes one how-to workshop to assist those preparing Image Award entries.

AMAZING CAPITAL RACE CO-CHAIRS (Report to Director of Development): Organizes Cap Chap’s signature fundraising event typically held in September. Works with professional race organizer, other chairs and directors to ensure ample race publicity and sponsorships.
