FPRA-Capital Chapter Honors Tallahassee’s Best at the 2010 Image Awards
Southern hospitality and mint juleps abounded at The Los Robles Women’s Club on March 31, when the Florida Public Relations Association-Capital Chapter held the 2010 Local Image Awards Ceremony. In keeping with the theme, “Inside the Winners’ Circle,” pr professionals wore their finest hats to celebrate the occasion Kentucky Derby-style. The emcee was Kentuckian and former WCTV news anchor Frank Ranicky.
The Image Awards recognize outstanding public relations programs in Florida, and aim to encourage and promote the development of public relations professionalism in the state. “Nearly 40 awards were presented to local winners who demonstrated the very best examples of innovation, planning and design,” said committee chair Sandi Copes. “Entries also must meet the highest standard of production, execution and evaluation of results and budget.”
Melanie Mowry-Etters, Communications Director for the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, received The Stanley Tait Professional Award for Service, the Capital Chapter’s most prestigious honor. The former Capital Chapter president has more than 20 years of experience in media and government communications. The award was presented by Dr. Jay Rayburn of Florida State University’s College of Communications. He also hails from “the bluegrass state” and was Mowry-Etters’ major professor in graduate school.
Two exceptional students pursuing careers in public relations were recognized with $500 scholarships. Christina Morgan is a junior at FSU and the incoming president of the FPRA Student Chapter. Ajonelle Poole is a senior at Florida A&M University, who is active in PRodigy, a student-run public relations firm and the FAMU Green Coalition.
